Habitat: terrestrial in moist, open, acidic bogs, prairies, pine woods, and roadsides

Comments: this terrestrial, although smaller than P. ciliaris, is quite conspicuous growing in wet, open areas (often on wet roadsides and ditches). It is believed to be a hybrid between P. ciliaris and P. cristata, as its size is somewhat intermediate between the two species. It grows, however, in stable populations in places where neither parent is known to occur (or does not occur anymore).
